What Are The Consequences Of Jumping A Red Light Signal

Washim SarwerBy Washim SarwerJanuary 16, 2024No Comments3 Mins Read

Following traffic rules is critical to reducing the risk. These rules ensure safe travel, covering speed limits, signals, and vehicle maintenance. Breaking them may result in fines. This article will focus on the often ignored “Traffic Signal Rule.”

Rules For Traffic Lights: Lights In Green, Yellow, And Red

Traffic light regulations are vital for road safety, using colours like green, yellow, and red to guide vehicles and pedestrians. Awareness of these rules is essential for preventing accidents and ensuring smooth traffic flow.

The green light indicates that you should proceed cautiously. It signals that leaving is safe. It would help if you were still mindful of other cars, pedestrians, and possible dangers. You must adhere to the posted speed limit and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, whether two or four wheels.

The yellow light indicates the signal is about to turn red. When you come to a yellow light, slow down and get ready to stop. You must stop before the intersection and avoid attempting to evade the traffic signal.

Stop when the light turns red. When approaching a red light, you must stop entirely behind the stop line or crosswalk. Passing a red light is against the law, and doing so puts you at risk of getting into an accident and receiving a traffic citation.

Pedestrians must also abide by the laws of traffic signals. People should stay off the road when the light is yellow or red and wait for the green light to cross. In addition, pedestrians must watch out for oncoming traffic and always look both ways before crossing.

What Occurs If You Are Detected Violating Traffic Laws?

In India, you might face the following penalties if you are found to violate traffic laws:

    • You might be pulled over by a traffic police officer who requests to see your driver’s licence, registration, and two-wheeler insurance paperwork.
    • The specific traffic rule(s) you have broken, and the associated acceptable amount may be listed on a ticket for traffic violations the officer issues to you.
    • The fine may be due immediately or within a specific time.
    • The police may impound your car until you pay the fine if you refuse to pay it.
    • Depending on the offence’s severity, you might occasionally have to appear in court and be subject to harsher punishments, like having your driver’s licence suspended or revoked.
    • You might be held legally responsible for any accidents, injuries, or property damage caused by your violation, and you might also have to compensate the person who was harmed. If the accident is unintentional and you have third-party bike insurance, your two-wheeler insurance policy will pay for it.*
    • If you commit the same offence repeatedly, your licence might be suspended or cancelled. You might also have to pass a driving test or go to driving school before you can get your licence back.
    • Ignoring a red light signal may lead to repercussions like fines and penalties, potentially affecting your vehicle insurance rates.
    • Disregarding a red light signal can result in significant repercussions, including financial penalties and potential implications for your bike insurance renewal.
